SUMMARY:Vermont Senior Games
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 Vermont Senior Games Association Tennis Championships will be played at a new venue this season. We are excited to be staging the tournament at the Proctor Tennis Courts on the campus of Middlebury College. \nThe Singles and Mixed Doubles are scheduled for Saturday July 27\, with the Men’s and Women’s Doubles to follow on Sunday July 28. \nThe entry fee is $35 per player. Entry into additional events is $10 for each event. Athletes must preregister by Wednesday\, July 24\, 2024. If you are a Vermont resident and the registration fee is preventing you from participating\, access this link to learn about our scholarship program: https://www.vermontseniorgames.org/scholarships \nThe tennis tournament is open to anyone who will be at least 50 years old by 12/31/2024. Out-of-state players are welcome to participate. The VSGA cancellation policy is that anyone who chooses to withdraw from an event and wishes to receive a refund must contact George at least one week prior to the competition date. There will be a $10 processing fee assesses to the refund amount. \nThe tournament format will be determined by the number of participants registered in each event and age group. Doubles competitive age will be that of the younger partner. Vermont Senior Games medals will be awarded to the first three places\, in 5-year age brackets for men and women. NSGA and USTA rules will apply. This event is sponsored by USTA Vermont. \nThis tournament is a qualifier for the next National Senior Games\, which will be held July 24 – August 4\, 2025\, in Des Moines\, Iowa. All athletes who finish in the top FOUR in their age group in each event will qualify for the 2025 Nationals. Also note that Vermont entrants cannot be displaced by an out-of-state athlete when determining qualification for Nationals. Thus\, if a Vermonter finishes 5thin an event\, but an out-of-state performer was among the top four\, the Vermonter ‘qualifies down.’ \nThere are nine recently resurfaced hard courts at the Proctor facility. Players should bring a new\, unopened can of tennis balls for each event. Balls will be on sale at the tournament.

SUMMARY:2023 Friendship Cup - Women's Competition
DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Friendship Cup is celebrating its 40th Anniversary of play this year with a competition at the Burlington Tennis Club\, in Burlington\, VT on June 24 & 25\, 2023. Matches are planned for the 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. time period on both days. \nThe Cup is a multi-aged annual event held between a team from Quebec and a team from Vermont. In its current format\, this USTA event\, features two players in each age group (40s\, 45s\, 50s\, 55s\, 60s\, 65s and 70s). The format features players competing in singles on Saturday and pairing together with the teammate in their age group to play a doubles match on Sunday. The Cup is awarded to the team with the most wins after the completion of the event. In addition to the competition\, the event features social activities to foster the spirit of friendship with our competitors from across the border and an exchange of gifts at the start of the competition.
