VT USTA Mixed Doubles Season Completed

Thanks to the captains and players who participated in the VT USTA 18 & Over Mixed Doubles League. Congratulations to the 15 players on “Venus and Mars,” captained by Mary Kirkpatrick, who finished first in the 7.0 flight, and to the 17 players on “Net Force One,” captained by Lisa Strausser, who finished first in the 8.0 flight. Both teams plan to compete at the Mixed 18 & Over District Championship to be held June 25-26, 2022, in Eastern Massachusetts at the Woburn, Winchester, and Bass River tennis clubs. Best of luck to these players!

VT USTA Summer Singles Flex Leagues

VT USTA offered flex leagues for women and men to play singles matches against other Vermont players from mid-May through mid-September. The participants schedule their own matches to avoid conflicts with their other summer activities. The matches may be played indoors or outdoors depending on the participants’ preferences. Fifty-one players have signed up to play at the 3.5 and 4.5 levels (men) and the 3.0, 3.5, and 4.5 levels (women). USTA Vermont, Inc. will be funding prizes for the winners of each flight since this league does not advance to district or sectional championships. Here’s to some fun competition for all those playing singles!

“Tri-Level” Doubles League – Teams Start Forming in August

If you like playing doubles with a few of your friends against a variety of opponents, the “Tri-Level” League is for you. VT USTA will start forming teams in August at the 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5 NTRP levels for men and women. Teams consist of 2-6 players and each match is one doubles match (2 players from one team compete against 2 players from another team). The league is called “Tri-Level” because, years ago, a team was composed of two 3.5 players, two 4.0 players, and two 4.5 players (three levels of players on one team). Currently, each doubles team plays other doubles teams at their same NTRP level, so the “Tri-Level” name is a bit of a misnomer. The first-place VT team at each NTRP level can compete in a Sectional Championship held in mid-January in Western Massachusetts to play other teams from New England. If you are interested in playing on a team, please send an email to the USTA Local League Coordinator, Beth Cook, at vt-league@newengland.usta.com.
