A salute to 44 medal and podium-achieving Vermont athletes who competed at the National Senior Games was held on Wednesday, March 15 at the Vermont Statehouse in Montpelier. The event honored the athletic achievements of Vermont athletes 50-100 who competed at the 2022 National Senior Games in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Sponsored by The Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, qualifying athletes were honored during the Presentation of House Resolution VT HCR045, which named March 15, 2023, Senior Physical Fitness Day. Vermont hosts events in eleven sports, and those qualifying cyclists, tennis and pickleball players, swimmers, runners, basketball, and track and field athletes compete to advance to national events held around the country in alternating years. The athletes were recognized during the legislative session, spoke with the press, and met privately with Governor Phil Scott before receiving signed commendations. The VSG’s motto is “Fun, Fitness, Fellowship,” and invites athletes over 50 to contact George Moltz at gwmoltz@gmail.com for more information.
